Steve linked to a Dvorak piece on how to Spam-proof e-mail yesterday, and in his comments I left him a fairly non-technical response that seems to have been mostly correct, if a bit verbose.
That got me thinking about the implications of secure, authenticated e-mail while heading down to the bar to meet up with Andy, and I came up with a question that I'd like to pose to my (sparse, masochistic) readership:
If you could eliminate spam at the cost of eliminating anonymous e-mail, would you? Why or why not?
Let me know what you think. I'll save my opinion until after I get some responses.
Posted by Dork at July 17, 2003 12:57 PM | TrackBackI'd never give up anonymous e-mailing...
Posted by: anonymous on July 17, 2003 01:11 PMMy e-mail is already as non-anonymous as it can get (first initial, last name, no more than 8 characters; if this is not unique, use first initial, middle initial, last name, no more than 8 characters; if this is not unique, use... and so on, ad nauseam). I say, get rid of spam, even if it means getting rid of anonymous e-mails. Heck, you can always send them an anonymous letter (cut from the paper or printed out at the local Kinkos, of course), or a good old-fashioned anonymous phone call from a phone booth outside a 7-11 in Brooklyn. I mean, come on, anonymous e-mail is just so... anonymous. Where's the heart?
Posted by: Kelly on July 17, 2003 01:17 PMOh, and my condolences to Andy.... you did, at least, manage to make off with the printer/fax/copier, right?
