Electronic crusades

Electronic crusades
Well, as happens from time to time, the Mac vs. PC wars have flared up again.
The first indication of the coming unpleasantness was a laudatory post over at Cold Fury. Now, I'm not about to take Mike to task, as I'm a firm believer in using what you like. I also know that Mike just linked to the famous Grotto 11, Mac advocacy blog. But the fact that a post came up, quoting a line like this;

You want to know what it's like to be a Mac user? Watch some guys drinking Budweiser and marveling to each other in hushed tones about its bouquet and its body and bite. Or listen to someone who drives a Civic, gushing in rapture at its horsepower and its handling.
is just asking for unpleasantness.
And the floodgates opened.
As I said earlier, I could give a shit what OS you prefer. I'm a firm believer that all computers suck equally, they just suck in different ways. WIth that said, I really don't understand the mindset behind the Mac evangelists. From my experience, they take any slight against their chosen box as a personal affront, to be decried and punished. How anyone gets that attached to their machine, I don't know, but I do know this: Every time I hear some Mac fanatic frothing at the mouth about the superiority of the Apple platform, and by extension the Apple users, it merely strengthens my resolve to never, ever, ever, purchase or recommend a Mac to anyone I know.
I think Penny Arcade summed it up best in this cartoon.

In the interests of full disclosure: I've been in IT for almost 8 years, and the majority of that has been working with Microsoft products. This doesn't mean I like Microsoft. I just like it better than Apple.
